James Reviews Prachya Pinkaew's Elephant White [Blu-Ray Review]

A direct to DVD movie with Djimon Hounsou as an assassin and Kevin Bacon as a gun runner in Thailand Prachya Pinkaew headed by the Director of two of my favorite action movies in the last 10 years, Ong Bak and chocolate? How I would have missed? Why have not released in cinemas here? Why am I asking so many questions? That's what I asked all the time watching the film. The most important ones: Is it a good movie?

An American mercenary who is very careful with his name (Djimon Hounsou) is to finish a job in Thailand for an employer when he proposes an additional job. He asks her to kill the crime lord who has kidnapped his daughter prostitute and eventually killed. He agrees, but is suspicious when a mysterious 14 years Mae (Jirantanin Pitakporntrakul) enters his life and gives new meaning to its mission: To stop the sexual trafficking of young girls in the region altogether. With the help of Jimmy the Brit (Kevin Bacon, which I was not sure if it was New Zealand, South Africa and England), an experienced runner gun, he begins a one man army against bosses Katha (Weeraprawat Wongpuapan) and its criminal empire, is more about Mae and double cross on the way to those you wait at least.

On paper, this sounds like a classic action infallible. A little dot of a message with some great actors and a director who knows how to run some of the best original action and out in the last decade. So why does it fall flat as a stuntman on the head?It could be because the message is a little too in your face. Of course, sex trafficking is a serious matter that the world is always tempting to treat. But Pinkaew not working at full force, not necessarily his fault entirely, but by the script written by Kevin Bernhardt, who seems to be reaching for the stars to give a typical history of lone wolf, sprinkle a little humor but at the same time dealing with a delicate subject.
