Cambodia's ancient wonders suffer modern ills
Siem Reap, Cambodia (AP) - The sweltering heat in the temples of Angkor in Cambodia eases and the sun shimmering soft brush will soon be past some of the most beautiful monuments ever created by man. A peaceful moment to bow? Hardly.
A traffic jam of 3000 tourists rises a steep hill, trampling stone vulnerable and thirst of beer on top of a sacred hill that offers spectacular views of sunsets over the massive hive like towers from the main temple of the ancient city: Angkor Wat.
The following guides describe its wonders through the loudspeakers blaring in a variety of languages as the buses circle which is said to be the world's largest religious building, one of hundreds built by the kings of Angkor between 9th and 14th centuries.

"Nobody should be allowed to walk on 1000 years of the stones," said Jeff Morgan, executive director of the Fund in the U.S. World Heritage.
He said the limits on tourists in the temples are decades behind.
The flow accelerates the deterioration of buildings already shaken by the invasive tropical vegetation and monsoon rains. The tread hard feet and fumes of heavy traffic wear the soft sandstone. Oily fingers badly magnificent reliefs below. Rob noisy crowds of visitors almost mystical moments of quiet contemplation or the chance to imagine they are explorers of the jungle to discover a lost city.
Too many tourists are not only misfortune of Angkor.
The World Heritage Site and city of Siem Reap, gateway are also prey to crass development, alleged corruption and continuously delayed plans on how best to preserve the temples.
Once abandoned and overgrown by the jungle, and isolated by war, these stone buildings have emerged as one of Asia tourist draws and a gold mine for a life of the poorest nations of the world. Tourism Minister Thong Khon Cambodian says some 6 million visitors per year are planned by 2020.
