Joburg-Pretoria by high-speed rail

Within five hours after its launch, South Africa's new high-speed rail service between Pretoria and Johannesburg was attended by over 7000 users.
The figure was considered revolutionary for a public process designed to reduce traffic between the two provinces economic centers.
After some delays, the importance of city to city, the road was finally opened on August 2. The first train that left at 5:26 Hatfield Pretoria to Johannesburg suburb of Rosebank, transported hundreds of commuters to work.
According to Gautrain management, train passengers had received 2000 7:00, and only two hours later, had added another 5,000 to that number.
Gauteng MEC for Transport and Communications Ismail Vadi was among the first passengers. "In 37 minutes we were at Hatfield Rosebank," he said, referring to a journey that could take up to two hours or more in peak traffic.
Vadi said he had found the long-awaited trip to be "flexible, fast, comfortable and safe." At its maximum speed of 160 km per hour, the fastest means of transport in South Africa next air.
Commuter Mphengoa Phoko started using the train the day of its launch. She used to drive daily from Pretoria to the workplace, in Johannesburg, but said it will mount the Gautrain from now.
"It's convenient and less stressful," Phoko said, answering a question from his seat. "After a long day at work, I will not concentrate on driving."
The Gautrain route between Sandton and OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park, which was launched just before the 2010 World Cup, has already carried nearly three million commuters in just over a year.
The road from Pretoria-Johannesburg is expected to exceed that figure by the end of 2011, as it attracts thousands of people who go to work everyday.
"Gautrain is the future for public transport in South Africa," said Transport Minister S'bu Ndebele, suggesting that in future the government may seek to introduce such high-speed trains elsewhere .
